The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Michael Abikoye, has protested the inhuman treatment of Nigerians by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with the deportation of 723 Nigerians between 2018 and 2019. Mr Abikoye said this at a meeting between him and the Comptroller-General of GIS, Kwame Takyi, in Ghana, with report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. The High Commissioner said 723 Nigerians were deported on alleged illegal stay, cybercrime and prostitution between the January 2018 and January 2019. According to him, 81 Nigerians are deported on alleged cybercrime and illegal stay in January, while 115 have so far been deported in February on the allegation of overstay and prostitution. The High commissioner cautioned against inhuman treatment of Nigerians by Ghana, warning that any form of torture or ill treatment of Nigerians would not be acceptable to Nigerian Government. The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended a strike it commenced three months ago. The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, February 12. The suspension of the strike was announced on Thursday evening after a meeting with between the ASUU leadership and a government delegation led by labour minister, Chris Ngige. The ASUU delegation was led by its president, Abiodun Ogunyemi, who announced the suspension of the strike. At the meeting, a memorandum of action was signed by the two parties. Mr Ngige had earlier said the government had resolved the eight contentious issues that led to the strike. He said some of the items have been implemented. Mr Ngige said the union agreed with the government that N25 billion naira will be released for the revitalization of public universities. No fewer than 12 persons were confirmed dead in an accident involving a black Kia Cerato car and a grey Toyota Sports space bus around Shiun area on Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway on Sunday. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Mr. Clement Oladele, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta. Oladele, who said that the accident occurred around 1p.m. , said that it was caused by the car marked KJA 806 BT which was on high speed when it suffered a burst tyre. “The driver was suspected to have applied brake suddenly, which made him to lose control. “This led the speeding car to climb the road divider to the opposite direction where it collided with the passenger bus. “The bus with registration number LSR 334 FF was traveling from Abeokuta toward Sagamu. “The unfortunate crash killed all the occupants of the two vehicles . “Twelve persons who were involved in the crash – five male adults, six female adults and one child,” he said. A female corper serving in IMO state named Ijeoma Evelyn allowed her mood get the better part of her when she allegedly stabbed her roommate Miss Lizzy Jedele on the 2nd of February in the Corpers' lodge, Nwangele. Sources gathered that the two of them had a minor issue over some money given to them by their landlord to purchase a small generator.
