Maiduguri Under Attack As Severe Explosions and Gunshots Hits the City On Election Day

Just 2 hours to the Presidential election Borno state capital Maiduguri and its environs are under severe attack with several heavy explosion and gunshots in the city, the residents of Maiduguri are currently in panic as series of explosions have rocked the city all within ten minutes. The explosions, seven of them, began at around 5:50am and ended a little around 6am on Saturday 23/02/2019. Residents are worried about their safety, especially with the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to begin in less than two hours. Ghana Deports 723 Nigerians, FG Protests

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, Michael Abikoye, has protested the inhuman treatment of Nigerians by the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with the deportation of 723 Nigerians between 2018 and 2019. Mr Abikoye said this at a meeting between him and the Comptroller-General of GIS, Kwame Takyi, in Ghana, with report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja. The High Commissioner said 723 Nigerians were deported on alleged illegal stay, cybercrime and prostitution between the January 2018 and January 2019. According to him, 81 Nigerians are deported on alleged cybercrime and illegal stay in January, while 115 have so far been deported in February on the allegation of overstay and prostitution. The High commissioner cautioned against inhuman treatment of Nigerians by Ghana, warning that any form of torture or ill treatment of Nigerians would not be acceptable to Nigerian Government. ASUU suspends strike, asks lecturers to resume tomorrow

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has officially suspended a strike it commenced three months ago. The union directed university lecturers to resume duty from tomorrow, February 12. The suspension of the strike was announced on Thursday evening after a meeting with between the ASUU leadership and a government delegation led by labour minister, Chris Ngige. The ASUU delegation was led by its president, Abiodun Ogunyemi, who announced the suspension of the strike. At the meeting, a memorandum of action was signed by the two parties. Mr Ngige had earlier said the government had resolved the eight contentious issues that led to the strike. He said some of the items have been implemented. Mr Ngige said the union agreed with the government that N25 billion naira will be released for the revitalization of public universities. Many die in Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway accident

No fewer than 12 persons were confirmed dead in an accident involving a black Kia Cerato car and a grey Toyota Sports space bus around Shiun area on Abeokuta/Sagamu Expressway on Sunday. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, Mr. Clement Oladele, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta. Oladele, who said that the accident occurred around 1p.m. , said that it was caused by the car marked KJA 806 BT which was on high speed when it suffered a burst tyre. “The driver was suspected to have applied brake suddenly, which made him to lose control. “This led the speeding car to climb the road divider to the opposite direction where it collided with the passenger bus. “The bus with registration number LSR 334 FF was traveling from Abeokuta toward Sagamu. “The unfortunate crash killed all the occupants of the two vehicles . “Twelve persons who were involved in the crash – five male adults, six female adults and one child,” he said. A video circulating online shows the dramatic moment a house help was caught with panties belonging to her madam and her madam's daughter. In the video, the madam and her husband can be heard interrogating the girl about the stolen panties. She cried and swore she wasn't planning to use it for anything. She claimed she only wanted to keep it for her personal use. But the woman's husband didn't believe the househelp's story and he asked her how she intended to wear the pants belonging to her madam which wouldn't her size. The girl had no reply to this. The madam went on to ask the househelp why she didn't seek her permission first before taking the pants and the girl said it was because she was scared. A female Corper stabbed her roommate in IMO State

A female corper serving in IMO state named Ijeoma Evelyn allowed her mood get the better part of her when she allegedly stabbed her roommate Miss Lizzy Jedele on the 2nd of February in the Corpers' lodge, Nwangele. Sources gathered that the two of them had a minor issue over some money given to them by their landlord to purchase a small generator. These led to some sorts of jealousy and animosity which eventually led to the stabbing. Lizzy (close to the cam) going home with Ijeoma after INEC training on friday Feb 1st Miss Lizzy, a native of Kwara state and who currently is serving at Aba Nwangele LGA of IMO state was stabbed on the face, very close to the eyes and nose. She was also stabbed on the right ear and at the back of the neck. She was allegedly blocked from running out of the room by Ijeoma, which made the former sustain more injury.
